Test Summary 👇

Blue Yeti, an outstanding USB microphone

The Blue Yeti microphone is best appreciated for its USB microphone function. It has a USB port that connects easily to your laptop, MAC, iPad or other digital device.

Buying a Yeti microphone means taking advantage of highly functional recording equipment for picking up and recording audio.

Blue Yeti

The studio microphone offers you a simple and effective way to make voice recordings at home with ease. You don’t have to buy a whole bunch of hardware or gadgets, the micro-USB can be all you need.

It is also a professional cross-platform accounting microphone with Windows, tablet, MAC using a USB adapter.

It even has a 3.5 mm jack port with which you can directly connect headphones or earphones. Record your words in stereo at the same time and enjoy listening to the picked up sounds.

Blue Yeti Pro Studio: Versatile microphone with multiple uses

Similar to a dynamic microphone, or a condenser microphone from the outside, the Blue Yeti USB microphone is versatile. Indeed, this type of microphone is suitable for all types of sound recording: voice-over, podcast, studio one, internet radio, sounds for YouTube, Skype, video calls, audio calls…

You can therefore use it to make an home studio than to give speeches and interviews.

Blue Yeti

Are you looking for a high quality sound pressure to electrical signal converter? Then choose this condenser microphone.

Offering great value for money, it has everything you need to create a pro studio anywhere. By the way, the fact that it’s portable means you can easily take it with you wherever you want, a true Electronics gadget extraordinaire.

No need for an external sound card

With this dynamic microphone from Blue, you no longer need an external sound card. So if you’re used to using a microphone without a sound card, this one’s just right for you. Just plug your headset into the microphone and start recording.

Also, if your computer is already equipped with a card dedicated to sound playback, everything is arranged without preamplifier or other hardware. You’ll enjoy high quality audio and simplified connection via connectors and Bluetooth. What more could you ask for?

Blue Yeti

Blue Yeti Pro Studio works in plug-in play mode. This means that I don’t need any third-party software or drivers to use it.

The USB cable and the USB port it provides make streaming, playback and excellent sound recording a breeze. Nevertheless, I can connect it with most of the studio software on the market in addition to the Blue Sherpa software of the brand.

Yeti Blue has a highly appreciable retro design

In addition to offering USB connectivity like the Rode NT USB, Blue’s omnidirectional microphone is appreciated for its design. In particular, it has a very retro, old school look.

I define it as modern, professional and versatile. It has its place in an office, a home studio as a decorative element and as monitoring equipment for podcaster.

Blue Yeti

You’ll enjoy a home recording studio with a metal chassis and glittery finishes. Zooming in on its details, it’s still pretty nice on its own although its walls are not completely smooth.

Its metal grille proves that it is a solid, robust and reliable vocal instrument. However, I regret the presence of plastic buttons. The brand should have proposed metal elements that seem more robust.

The metal-plastic sound mix is enhanced by a non-slip rubber pad on the bottom of the base. This headset allows you to continue recording without interference, even while on a boat. On my desk, this feature prevents the unit from inadvertently slipping and falling on the floor.

Like most Blue microphones, the Blue Yeti Pro Studio has two coil clamp screws to make it easy to mount on a stand. I can also loosen these screws and mount it on an acoustic microphone stand.

Blue Yeti

I can then use it in a standing position and approach the microphone with ease.

The only drawback of the design is that it is impossible to adjust the height of this kind of microphone or to orient it in a horizontal direction. So I have to be satisfied with a vertical adjustment to pick up sound waves and transform them into a magnetic signal.

4 types of directivity taken into consideration for Blue Yeti

Lne of the most impressive features of this USB microphone is the number of directivities it takes into consideration. Just as the USB microphone Apogee Mic Plus,it will amaze you with its ability to modify different static and dynamic polar patterns.

It uses a full array of 3-capsule condenser microphones that allow you to switch quickly between frequency modes. Enjoy a choice of static modes: cardioid, stereo, omnidirectional and bidirectional.

Blue Yeti

Cardioid directivity of Blue Yeti

The cardioid directivity is particularly suitable for most audio recordings made through a microphone pole.

This mode meets the needs of gamers, podcasters, video calls, webinars and streaming audio with external power.

By the way, see also our complete test on the SE Electronics X1R microphone. This article provides you with everything you need to know about this ribbon microphone, including its main features, what comes with the microphone, its technical specifications, reviews of the microphone, etc.

Stereo directivity

Connecting a microphone in stereo mode allows for better filtering of the picked up sounds in case of sensor channel separation. This type of directivity is suitable for recording musical instruments such as acoustic bass guitar.

Blue Yeti

Omnidirectional directivity

The Blue Yeti omnidirectional microphone makes it easy to pick up sounds through a conventional desktop. It provides an even pickup of sound directions, regardless of the specificities of the voices.

It’s particularly suitable for conferences, video calls and Internet recordings such as YouTube channels.

Bidirectional directivity

The bi-directional mode considers sound pickup nuances in two directions of sound pressure pickup.

This option of the converter adapts to interviews in order to record sounds at the front and back of the speaker. The rendering obtained will not yet hold interference, background noise that could condense its audio quality.

Focus on the extra features of the Blue Yeti Pro Studio

The Blue Yeti microphone is probably the best microphone I would recommend to a gamer. It has 3 electronic capsules which ensure that the sound pickup in the vertical position remains excellent.

You will surely notice its “Mute” and “Volume” buttons that allow you to mute the recording at the desired moment. This analog sound function is also suitable for singers, podcasters, YouTubers, beginners and professionals.

Blue Yeti

Blue Yeti : An optimal lateral sound recording

The best way to achieve high-resolution sound quality is to use a lateral pickup. This posture is the most favorable for picking up vibration and electrostatic sound in cardioid directivity. A better frequency response with phantom powering and low latency will result.

Blue Yeti has a recording LED indicator

Near the buttons of the Yeti microphone is an LED indicator. This makes it easier to understand the use of the shockmounted device.

Indeed, when it emits a continuous red color, it means that it is in full recording mode. It blinks every time I mute the sound from the mixing console.

The weight of Blue Yeti Pro Studio, a major drawback?

The weight of this USB microphone is its main drawback. The microphone weighs 0.5 kg and the base 1 kg. Moving it frequently is therefore problematic, especially if you plan to record in different places. You might be more comfortable with lighter portable models such as the Neumann microphones.

However, if you want to create the perfect home studio or recording studio in your office, the Blue Yeti is just what you need. You can also use it from its base or place it on a microphone stand. Just unscrew the screws.
